The William R. Golding was the only vessel able to lend any immediate assistance to the Cherry Venture. The tugboat reached the scene about 7 o’clock the next morning. The tug was forced to abandon the salvage attempt and seek shelter on the northern side of Double Island Point due to further decline in the weather. A second attempt was made but The Cherry Venture refused to budge and the rest is history.
