Bailey's Motel
DETAILS
Alternative NameTakken's MotelAdditional InformationBailey’s Motel was built on Noosa Hill in the 1960s. It represented a new style of motel accommodation that became popular in the 1960s, gradually replacing guesthouses, hotels and holiday cottages.
Bailey’s Motel offered accommodation in self-contained cabins for four persons and self-contained units for two or four persons. The ‘luxury’ appointments included wall-to-wall carpets, Dunlopillo mattresses, kitchenette fully equipped with electric stove, refrigerator, hot water on tap, all cooking and table utensils, china and teatowels, and in room television. A swimming pool, laundry and car washing facilities were also available to guests. Cabins and units were serviced daily.
The first managers were John and Bev Takken. It was later managed by Albert Takken.
Bailey’s was also home to the Seahorse Souvenir Shoppe.
The motel was popular and hosted repeat visitors from Brisbane, interstate and even the upper echelons of British society and an occasional celebrity.
It was only a short walk down the hill to Noosa Main Beach and the Noosa Hotel across the road offered meals and refreshments.
