Noosa's War Front
ABOUT THIS ITEM
The ProjectNoosa’s War Front was a project to explore the ways the Noosa community and Noosa council navigated the World War I years. The project culminated in an exhibition at the Noosaville Library that opened on 18 November 2015.
The project explored themes of patriotism, courage, resilience, grief, loss, duty and sacrifice as experienced by the Noosa community.
The community participated in the project as volunteer researchers or by sharing their family’s own WWI stories, photos, letters, diaries, and memorabilia through a series of “Antiques Roadshow-style” collecting drives at Noosaville Library in April 2015. The material collected was incorporated into the exhibition. Some material was digitised for inclusion in the Noosa Heritage Library collection and available online.
The project was part of the state, national and worldwide World War I centenary commemorations and was funded through a $14,481 grant from the Queensland Anzac Centenary Grants Program.
An additional grant from State Library of Queensland enabled some of the stories gathered in the Noosa’s War Front project to be shared on the social media platform Historypin.
The project was researched, curated and coordinated by Noosa Council Heritage Librarian Jane Harding and historian Joe Hextall.
