McGhie, Luya & Company established Noosa Sawmills at South Brisbane in the early 1880s. Timber was transported by boat from the Noosa and Lake Cootharaba region to the sawmills. This watercolour painting depicts the sawmills on the banks of the Brisbane River at South Brisbane. CGS Hirst also painted another view of the Noosa Sawmills from South Brisbane, looking towards Gardens Point. Both original watercolour paintings are held by the State Library of Queensland.
