Additional InformationNoosa Memories by Lyn Morrison
Ernie and Elsie Morrison lived at North Arm on a banana, sugar cane and ginger farm. Elsie's family ran the Refreshment Rooms at the Nambour Railway Station. Elsie's family came from Denmark and Ernie's heritage was Scottish. They moved to Noosa in approximately 1950. They purchased land on the corner of Edward and Ann Streets, Noosaville. Ernie and Elsie were friends with the Massoud family. Bob Scanlon and the Suttons were their neighbours. They built their fibro home there. It was built on wallum, sandy soil, sandfly country.
They had three children; Cliff, Greg and Morgan. We (Lynn Morrison, grand-daughter) used to visit them every Christmas holidays at Noosaville. Pop was friends with a lot of local people. I remember Bill and Ivan Massoud used to bring us fish and prawns in old kerosene metal tubs. We used to go on their coloured sand tours and I remember playing sand castles and swimming with Dennis Massoud as a child. We would swim from Munna Point to the Noosa Woods (no Noosa Sound in those days). We would go fishing on the North Shore and always return with sacks full of fish and seafood.
Nan and Pop had a well in their backyard and grew all their fruit and vegies. Fish and seafood were in abundance. Pop would go to the poultry farm at Tewantin weekly. We virtually lived off the land.
Cliff and June Morrison (my Mum and Dad) had their honeymoon at the Royal Mail Hotel. As kids we used to go the the picture theatre at Tewantin and see the Leyland Brothers and Arche Engles adventure movies. Noosa Heads always had beach carnivals with sand castle competitions. We used to walk or hitchhike from Noosaville over the old Weyba bridge to Noosa Heads and camp at The Woods.
I can vaguely remember the dirt road from Noosa Heads to Coolum and Sunshine Coast beaches. My Aunt Hilda Biltoft-Sneesby owned the Post Office in Coolum and owned huge amounts of land at Coolum.
