Also Known AsCharles John Richard CrankAdditional InformationCharles John Richard Crank: He was born at Nanango on 1 April 1867. He moved with his father Richard to Tewantin when he was 11 years old.
He attended One Mile School in Gympie and went on to become a blacksmith and wheelwright.
Richard worked as a stockman for Walter Hay. He was also drove a coach for Cobb & Co between Cooroy, Tewantin and Gympie, and was the last driver on that part of the run in 1891.
Richard married Catherine Callanan in Gympie in 1898 and they had two children.
In 1899 he opened the first butcher shop at Pomona. Richard owned many properties in the area and later he lived on Tewantin Road, Cooroy, in three houses that form the ambulance station today.
He was elected chair of Noosa Shire in 1919 and was returned six times. Richard was a member of the council for 26 years until 1939.
He died 4 April 1949 aged 83 and is buried in the Cooroy Cemetery.
In 1935 Richard was awarded the Jubilee Medal.
