In 1924 he bought a sawmill from Frank Pearce, Oakey Creek, Lower Kenilworth for the sum of 300 pounds.
He married Violet Pickering in June 1927 and the couple had five children.
In 1952, his son Leon became a partner in the mill and in 1954 he moved to a holiday house on Goodchap Estate and built a large house in front where he lived until he died.
In 1958, he nominated for Noosa Shire Chairman and was elected, serving two terms up to 1964.
He worked on solving the town water supply and a coastal road link between Caloundra and Noosa. Along with for Cooroora, David Low, they lobbied the State Government until crown land was made available to developers TM Burke Pty Ltd in exchange for roadwork.
