The bridge was attacked by cobra (a marine borer), and by mid 1891 it had started to fall to pieces. A second bridge was build in 1929 by T.M. Burke for the opening of Golden (Sunshine) Beach. Because of its popularity. This bridge retained its position when a more modern concrete one was erected in 1969.
