Cooroy Post Office
DETAILS
DescriptionPost and Telegraph facilities were available from Cooroy Railway Station from 1892. In 1911, the postal service was established in the School of Arts building (which had previously been known as the Shire Hall although never used for that purpose). The first Post-Master was Mr Campbell.
In 1913, the Commonwealth Government called for tenders for the construction of a new Post Office building to be erected alongside the existing building, with five tenders received in December of that year. Mr L. Baldry won the contract for £531.16.0 in January 1914 and the new building was completed in September 1914.
The Post Office was built to a standard Federation-era timber post office design of the Queensland Government Architect, with open front verandah, timber balustrade and a prominent front gable with vertical, slatted timber gable infill and a wide timber and corrugated iron window hood. Postal services have continued to be delivered from this building since its construction.
