Cooroy Presbyterian Church (former)
DETAILS
DescriptionThe Cooroy Presbyterian Church was built in 1929 and opened by the Rev. John Sinclair before a crowd of two hundred people, on 4 August 1929. It replaced an earlier church constructed ca 1914. The building was described as 57 ft by 25 ft with a vestry and minister's quarters, double entry porch, eight windows and an interior lined with Upson boards. Five tenders were received for the new building. The Westbrook brothers were the successful tenderers and constructed the building. Additional works for the lining and ceiling of the church building and minister’s quarters were carried out by Mr Don Westbrook for an additional cost.
The Presbyterian Church had strong community support and was well attended until the 1960s when the local population of the town declined, and the congregation dwindled. After the unification of the Presbyterian, Congregational and Methodist Churches in 1975, this building and the manse were sold to the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The building was again sold in 1995 and has been used as a private residence since that time.
