Pomona Uniting Church
DETAILS
Description
Methodist services were first held in the Pomona district at the Interdenominational Church, which opened ca 1910, then in the hall. In 1921, the Methodist Church, built by F Bale and D O’Connell, was opened by the Rev Mr Grayson (Minister of the Cooroy circuit) and the Rev T R Thurlow (ex- resident of the Queensland Methodist Conference) in front of a large gathering.
The Methodist Church became the Uniting Church in 1977, following the amalgamation of the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational Churches and the Uniting Church continues to hold services for the community in the building. The fittings in the church were made locally; Messrs Herbert Page and Scope made and donated the pulpit and Mr D McDonnell donated the seats. The church building was extended in 1930, with the addition of a new building.
The addition was opened by the Rev CC Truman, chairman of the North Coast district.Address27 ,Factory Street, Pomona
