Additional InformationBill was born in 1926 and grew up in the Sydney surf suburb of Bronte. Bill spent his teenage years enjoying the ocean and joined the local surf club at Bronte Beach.
In 1942 Bill started making his first surfboard, a timber 16-foot toothpick. This was the start of a future which saw Bill being renowned for his Australian surfboard design.
Bill moved into board building full-time, eventually settling in at Brookvale, NSW.
Bill and his family moved to Noosa in 1971, where he started a new board factory on the Noosa-Eumundi Road and he became involved with the Noosa SLSC.
By the 1990s, Bill was in demand again as the long-board resurgence took off.
In 1998 Bill’s surfing contribution was celebrated at the Noosa Festival of Surfing and applauded by the who’s who of the surf world.
Bill was inducted into the Surfboard Shapers Hall of Fame in California in 2011.
Bill passed away at the age of 91 in 2017
