HERITAGE NOOSA
Doggy Beach
DETAILS
DescriptionDoggy Beach, located on Noosa Spit, was originally developed in the 1970s as part of a broader coastal defence initiative to protect Noosa Sound’s homes and canals. Quickly becoming a beloved off-leash recreational area for locals and their dogs, while also serving a vital role in managing river flow and shielding the coastline from storm surges.
After years of significant erosion, Noosa Council launched a major sand nourishment and reprofiling project in 2023, backed by a permit from the Queensland Government.
Led by Hall Contracting, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule, wrapping up in early July 2024.
Mayor Frank Wilkie praised the effort, noting its success in restoring a vital recreational space and strengthening Noosa’s coastal defences.
Doggy Beach officially reopened to the public on 15 July 2024, offering improved resilience, a safer boating channel, and a rejuvenated shoreline for residents and their pets to enjoy.
