It was taken over by Alex Gibson who installed a 9 horsepower Hornsby engine in 1917. This was capable of producing ice. This enabled local fisherman to deliver fresh fish to Gympie and even as far away as Brisbane, creating a surge in professional fishing in the area. Between 100-300 cases of fish were being exported each week.
