Neil Dwyer Oral History - Cooroy Sports Complex

Overview
Neil Dywer is a born and bred Cooroy resident, descended from multi-generational Noosa Shire families. He attended Cooroy State School and was in one of the early intakes at Noosa District High School. Neil married his Grade One desk mate, Amy Dwyer, and has two sons. He had a career in the automotive industry, first in spare parts, then car sales, and subsequently as manager of Daddow’s Honda in Cooroy.
Neil has been very involved in sport and community activities in Cooroy, most notably the establishment and development of the Cooroy Sports Complex at the former Cooroy Showgrounds, of which he was President for 25 years.
Neil discusses changes in the town over his lifetime, both positive and negative, and the current challenges being faced by the town. He reveals the community spirit of the people of Cooroy in coming together to get things done and make things happen.

-Farming in Cooroy and the unpredictable things that occur that impact profitability
-The development of the Cooroy Sporting Complex
-His involvement in sport in Cooroy including fishing, football and golf
-The Cooroy Show
-Cooroy time capsule
-The significant employers in Cooroy – railways, SEQEB, PMG, banks, Wimmers Cordial, brickworks, sawmills and impacts of closures on the town
-Effects of highway bypass
-Proximity of town to Noosa and Brisbane
-Raising cows as a hobby and way to make extra money
-Being part of a syndicate that owns race horses
-Travel in Australia and overseas
