He studied painting at the National Art Gallery in Melbourne. He drew cartoons in England for Punch, Everybodys, The Stand and Lilliput. In the 1950s he worked with writer Alan Marshall on the humorous folklore strip 'Speewah Jack' in the Melbourne Argus newspaper. His best known and longest running creations for the Australian Post was the single panel cartoon 'Cedric', which he drew for 45 years from 1952;01/01/1950;31/12/1959. Tainsh also wrote over 200 documentaries for films and television, gags for Spike Milligan, Maurie Fields, Arthur Askey and Jim Berenson, as well as scripts for TV shows like 'Matlock', 'Division Four' and 'The Sullivans'Date1980sPhotographerIan MurrayImage NoT2000234
