TitleParticipants, Keep Noosa Special, Anti-Amalgamation March, Brisbane, 2013Additional InformationDespite a 2007 plebiscite where 95% of voters said no to amalgamation, on 15 March 2008, under the Local Government (Reform Implementation) Act 2007 (Qld), the Shire of Noosa was merged with the Shire of Maroochy and the City of Caloundra to form the Sunshine Coast Region. Noosa Shire Council was dissolved.

On 31 March 2013, 81% of residents voted to de-amalgamate from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council. The Shire of Noosa was re-established on 1 Jan 2014 with the new Mayor and Councillors sworn in the day after at a ceremony at the Cooroy Memorial Hall, followed by the first Council meeting held at the Noosa Shire Council Chambers in Pelican St, Cooroy.
