The Big Shell
ABOUT THIS ITEM
Alternative NameHouse of ShellsAdditional InformationIn 1940 the shell collection was first started by the Harlow Family when on their frequent visits to the Barrier Reef Islands they began to collect the marine life that was so abundant. Their shell collection grew so rapidly that it became necessary for somewhere to display and house the beautiful collection, so part of their home was turned into an area for people to come and visit. Because of its popularity a showroom was constructed during the 1950's on the road to Cooroy. It was purchased by the Anderson Family and moved to the Gympie Street site.
