Le Bateau Ivre
DETAILS
Description
Le Bateau Ivre was constructed in 1921 for the Richardsons as a family home on their 25 acres allotment. In the 1970s the rundown property was sold with the new owners deciding to use the property as a guesthouse, naming it ‘Le Bateau Ivre’. From the 1970s to 1990s, Le Bateau Ivre operated as a guesthouse and came to hold special social significance for the Boreen Point community as a function centre and meeting place. The house features, including its location overlooking the lake, the high-set design and the timber materials and detailing, contribute to its significance. It has a strong historical association with the early growth of Boreen Point and Noosa, for farming and as a holiday destination, from the 1900s onwards. It demonstrates the typical character and layout of early 1900s timber houses in the region and, through recent restoration, retains it aesthetic values and elements of its early setting on Lake Cootharaba.AddressUrunga Parade, Boreen Point
