Parkyn’s Hut was originally a miner’s cottage from the Monkland (Gympie). It had an iron roof and skillion and hardwood walls that were oiled rather than painted. The building was transported by bullock team ca 1920 Jack Hart, a builder, to his property in Tewantin close to its current location. In 1938, Howard and Iris Parkyn purchased the property and relocated the hut within the site to use the building as guest accommodation. In 1999, the Parkyn family sold the property, which included Hart’s original house and the hut, to the Tewantin RSL Club. The hut was later donated to the Tewantin Heritage and Historical Society and moved to its current location with assistance from Noosa Council in 2001. It is important historically for its link to the early development of Tewantin and illustrates the local practice of relocation and adaptive reuse of early timber buildings.Addresscnr Poinciana Avenue & Diyan Street, Tewantin
