The original Mayfair Theatre was constructed in 1936 by Lionel Donovan. During the 1930s and 1940s, evening public services were held in the Mayfair Theatre to mark Anzac Day. The original theatre burnt down in 1953 and was rebuilt a year later at the same site. The Mayfair Picture Theatre had canvas seats and was also used at other times as a roller-skating rink. In 1971, the theatre was converted into an arcade by Stan and Ken Dodt, providing shop and office accommodation.
