Additional InformationRichard Burke is the grandson of TM Burke and son of Marcus Burke, a family dynasty that started
in Australia with the emigration of Billy Burke from Ireland in 1846. The Burke family have had a
multi-generational connection and love-affair with Noosa, both living and making a living in the
area. Richard grew up in Melbourne and first visited Noosa as a four year old in 1956. He
moved to Noosa as a young adult and worked in construction and later established a plant
nursery and landscaping business in Noosa.
He built an award-winning house at Tinbeerwah where he raised his family and operated his plant nursery.
Richard is a self-proclaimed ‘tree hugger’ with strong ‘green’ beliefs; an ethos that could be seen
as the antithesis of his grandfather’s development activities.
Although Richard returned to Victoria some years ago, he continues to visit Noosa regularly and
still thinks it is wonderful – especially all the trees!
