Peregian Beach was one of three new townships constructed by T.M. Burke Pty. Ltd. on the coastal strip south of Noosa Heads. Peregian Beach township was originally called Peregian after the nearby Mount Peregian - ' Peregian' meaning 'Emu' in the language of the Kabi Kabi people. The first section of Peregian Estate was released for sale in April1960 and by 31 May 1961, 137 of the available 195 allotments had been sold.
