Major sporting events such as the Australian-hosted Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games have touched the Noosa region in an increasing way since the first Australian Olympics were held in Melbourne in 1956. With a view to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games, this research essay examines how the community of the Noosa region has participated in the lead-up to these major sporting events through torch relays and other celebrations.
