The first bridge over Weyba Creek was built in 1885. The bridge was attacked by cobra (a marine borer), and by mid 1891 it had started to fall to pieces. A second bridge was build in 1929 by T.M. Burke for the opening of Golden (Sunshine) Beach. Because of its popularity, this bridge retained its position when a more modern concrete one was erected in 1969. However, it too suffered over the years and became dangerous, but, public sentiment ensured it was replaced by a similar structure, and the present footbridge was erected in 1995.
