TitleAir drying timber stacks, Straker's sawmill, Cooroy, 1948 Additional InformationLocated at the lower end of Maple Street, the sawmill originally began operating in 1909 under the ownership of the Fenwick Brothers and Morrish (trading as Canadian Sawmills). The mill was sold to Blanford, Llewellyn, Smith and Carter in 1929 and purchased by Straker and sons, Frederick, Frank and Arthur in 1941. The Straker's were saw millers of Cooran who traded as the Cooroy Saw Milling Company. After a new mill commenced at Nandroya in 1972, Straker's mill ceased sawmilling but continued kiln drying and planing operations. The Straker family sold out to the Quintex Group of Companies and in 1988 the mill was purchased by Boral Timbers. It closed in October 2000.
