TitleStraker's sawmill, Cooroy, 1948 Additional InformationLocated at the lower end of Maple Street, the sawmill originally began operating in 1909 under the ownership of the Fenwick Brothers and Morrish (trading as Canadian Sawmills). In 1929 the mill was sold to Blanford, Llewellyn, Smith and Carter who in turn sold out to Straker and sons, Frederick, Frank and Arthur in 1941. The Straker's were saw millers of Cooran who traded as the Cooroy Saw Milling Company. After a new mill commenced at Nandroya in 1972, Straker's mill ceased sawmilling but continued kiln drying and planing operations. When the Straker family retired, the mill was bought by the Quintex Group of Companies and subsequently purchased by Boral Timbers in 1988. The mill closed in October 2000.Date1948Image NoM863277
