Additional InformationRoy Atfield Arthy was born in Gympie, Queensland in October 1919 and grew up on a dairy farm in Skyring Creek and Cooran.
One Sunday, Roy and his friend Tom O'Brien dropped Tom's mum at church in Pomona and while waiting for her at the local hotel, signed up to join the Army for service in World War II after meeting a recruitment officer.
Roy discusses his Army training and service in the Middle East and New Guinea and his Brother Sid Arthy's service.
He also talks about playing football in Cooran and Cooroy, his family, and running a cafe in Cooroy post-war.
Roy celebrated his 100th birthday in October 2019 and passed away in February 2020.
