Kin Kin State School
DETAILS
Additional Information
In 1916, education was provided to the children of Kin Kin in the School of Arts hall, pending the construction of a school building on the adjacent site. With limited funds delaying the construction and school enrolments continuing to grow, by 1919, a deputation was arranged to the Department of Public Instruction, to emphasize the pressing need for a new school and the unsuitability of the School of Arts Hall as a classroom. With the department still not putting forward the funds required to construct a new building, a proposal was made to relocate an unused school building from Crawford, 163 kilometres away. The re-built schoolhouse was ready for occupation in March 1921 and continued as the school building until it was deemed far too small to accommodate the growing
number of children enrolled.
This original school building was demolished in 1960 and a new school building completed in 1961. A Head Teacher’s residence was constructed in 1929 at a cost of £660. Address26-32,Main Street,Kin Kin
