TitleAlexandra Bridge, 1900 Additional InformationAlso known as 'Old Weyba Bridge'. The first bridge over Weyba Creek was built in 1885. The bridge was attacked by cobra (a marine borer), and by mid 1891 it had started to fall to pieces. A second bridge was build in 1929 by T.M. Burke for the opening of Golden (Sunshine) Beach. Because of its popularity, this bridge retained its position when a more modern concrete one was erected in 1969. However, it too suffered over the years and became dangerous, but, public sentiment ensured it was replaced by a similar structure, and the present footbridge was erected in 1995.Date1900Image NoT2002107
