HERITAGE NOOSA
Trish Kearton
DETAILS
Additional InformationTrish was born in 1955 in Quirindi near Tamworth NSW and lived in this area as a child. She has 7 siblings. She first moved to Noosa in 1988 after her marriage breakdown in 1985. Trish trained and worked as a Nurse and Midwife, and talks about nursing and midwifery with Aboriginal women around Moree.
After a holiday at Noosa in 1987 she decided to purchase a motel on the Noosa River at Noosaville she named River Palms (which changed to Dolphin Court for while). Trish talks in depth about the development and renovation of the motel using backpackers and hired labour. The motel businesses were very competitive late 1980s before Tourism Noosa was formed, they had to do their own marketing. She recalls Noosa Waters being development and the bridge of the canal, which affected her business.
Trish remarried with 2 more children (one daughter from her first marriage) and ran the One Stop Office Shop in Commerce St, Noosaville, moving to Rene Street.
In 2016 she moved back to Noosa to retire completely and comments on the improved support for at risk youth and women since she first arrived. Now Trish lives in Cooran, and volunteers at the Museum
