Rob Jeffs Oral History
DETAILS
NameRob Jeffs Oral HistoryOverview
Rob Jeffs provides a rich account of his family history, childhood, and long-standing involvement in the Cooroy and Noosa communities. Born in 1941, Jeffs grew up on a dairy farm on Ferrells Road after his parents, Archie and Kathleen, returned to the district during World War II. His early memories include farm life, walking miles to school, and enjoying an outdoor childhood shaped by creeks, bushland, and close family ties. Jeffs’ father, known for his generosity and community spirit, strongly influenced his values.
At age 14, Jeffs began an automotive apprenticeship at Page Motors in Cooroy, later topping Queensland in his third year. In 1959 he met his future wife, Daphne, and together they built a life rooted in hard work, community involvement, and family. Daphne trained as a nurse and later became the respected driver of the Black Mountain school bus, while Jeffs worked long hours as a mechanic and, eventually, as owner of Rob Jeffs’ Auto Services.
Jeffs also served more than twenty years as a volunteer firefighter and was the RACQ breakdown operator for a vast region. His recollections reflect significant local changes—from sandmining and early tourism to the development of Noosa Heads—alongside stories of community, resilience, and family dedication.
