Page Motors (former)
DETAILS
Description
The Page family, headed by Herbert John Page, founded Page Furnishers Pty Ltd, and has a long and distinguished connection with Pomona and the wider district. After his war service, Herbert’s son, Bob Page, branched out in his own motorcar business, Noosa Motors, on Factory Street, registered on 26 April 1946. The name was later changed to Page Motors. Bob had developed mechanical experience and training having served in the transport division of the Australian Army during WWII. During this time, he met United States servicemen who told him of the latest developments in garages and service stations in America.
After he was discharged from the Army, Bob obtained an ex- serviceman’s loan and built a modern service station on Factory Street, set
back from the footpath to accommodate petrol bowsers on a wide concrete driveway some distance from the edge of the kerb. He was the first to build this type of modern service station in Pomona. Prior to this modern design, petrol bowsers had been located along the boundary of a property and cars pulled into the verge to refuel. The garage and workshop were large and airy, unlike the small and dark service centres previously used. A large workforce of local people was employed in the car showroom, the spare parts department and the repair shop. Page held the Ford franchise for 50 years. In 1984, Bob Page retired, and the business was sold to Fredericksen’s Transport. Page Motors changed name to become ‘Pomona Driveway’ and more recently, is known as BP Pomona.
Address 17-19, Factory Street, Pomona
