Cooroy Library

Addressing the need for a local library, Noosa Council drove the transformation of the historic Cooroy Lower Mill site into a public precinct by establishing the Mill Place Master Plan. Following the sawmill's closure in 2000, the council secured a Queensland Q150 infrastructure grant to help fund a permanent branch. Opened in May 2010, the resulting Cooroy Library and Digital Information Hub was commissioned to bridge the town centre with the nearby Butter Factory Art Gallery. Designed by Brewster Hjorth Architects, the building features a sustainable earth-covered roof and a subterranean cooling labyrinth. Through this development, the council successfully preserved local timber heritage while providing modern digital services and open parklands for the community.
