MV 'Ruena' aground, Double Island Point, Double Island Point, Great Sandy National Park, Cooloola,1948

The MV Ruena was built by Ernest Wright in Tuncurry, New South Wales. 1948 Cyclone Grounding: In March 1948, the 105-ton Ruena was caught in a severe cyclone and driven ashore near the lagoons on the northern side of Double Island Point. Much of its cargo had to be temporarily buried in the nearby sand dunes.
