Tiki the Horse
DETAILS
Also Known AsThe best horse in the districtAdditional InformationTiki was a fifteen hands high brown stockhorse bought by Gavin Elliott in 1981 at Kin Kin. He was a very challenging horse to ride, as he was always determined to run fast, and to be at the front of any other horse in a group. He would dance on his toes and spin in circles, chafing at the bit.
Gavin and Tiki spent many years together crossing the countryside around Kin Kin, often at the gallop. His loyal companion was Marishka, ridden by Gavin’s wife, Deb.
Gavin and Deb have many happy memories of riding through the Mothar Mountain forestry, exploring the old coach roads to Gympie, and the many trails throughout the shire.
Tiki won the Great Kin Kin Horse race 3 times in a row, the only horse to do this. As he was a Kin Kin local, the whole town cheered him home. Every time he was ridden, he was ready to go, never slowed and always tried to be in front.
At a victory party after the first big win, the fellow who sold him to Gavin boasted that he had owned that horse. A wise old farmer next to him said “Mate, you sold the best horse in the district”.
Tiki died peacefully in a paddock at Kin Kin in 2007, aged 34 years.
