By: Lisa Spence28th Jul 2025 4:20PMDuring the war, Lynnette Hooper (Lynne Cameron) recalled being inside the school's air-raid trench on the far side of the oval, when she looked up and saw two Japanese planes silhouetted against the sky. Over 80 years later in 2025, Lynne came across an article in the Sunshine Valley Gazette, April 11 titled 'The day I saw a Japanese plane circling the hinterland'. The article quotes Tony Bevin of Nambour who also saw a Japanese reconnaissance plane from his family's farm in Burnside. The coincidence of having spotted this article and Lynne and Tony being probably two of the few people who recalled the incident was not lost on Lynne.
