HERITAGE NOOSA
Restdown
DETAILS
Description
The residence, ‘Restdown’, is located on the banks of the Noosa River between Lake Cooroibah and Lake Cootharaba. The property has been held by the Johns family for multiple generations, with the original selection made by James Smith in 1871 and subsequently purchased by Messrs. Olds and Johns in 1894. The Johns and Olds families were involved in primary production and established orchards and other crops, both native and exotic. The property was also known for its apiary and honey production, established by the original selectors. The wharf area at Restdown, known as Johns Landing, became a popular destination for day trippers travelling by boat from Tewantin. The landing became a popular place to camp, and by the 1990s, the increasing number of visitors resulted in a request from Council for the campground to be made official.
In 2017, Noosa Council purchased Johns Landing, a 49-hectare site, from the Johns family. It has since been turned into the Johns Landing Nature Refuge. ‘Restdown’ is situated on the adjacent property and is still in the ownership of the Johns family.AddressUpper Noosa River
