The surf ski, a type of watercraft similar to a kayak but longer, narrower, and lighter, was developed in Australia around 1912-1913 by Harry McLaren. It was later introduced to Sydney beaches in the 1930s. Precursors to modern stand-up paddleboards (SUPs), surf skis were being used for both recreational surfing, rescues and assisting access to oyster beds in Australia. Early surf skis were made of hollow timber and sometimes covered with plywood or canvas.Dateca 1930Image NoA82
