Alan Grills

Additional InformationAlan Grills discovered his passion for photography in high school, inspired by his mother who worked at a camera store in David Jones, Toombul. His first camera, a Ricoh 500GX, allowed him to explore manual settings and sparked an early interest in capturing everyday moments—starting with friends playing football.

In 1979, Alan photographed his first live music event at Festival Hall in Brisbane, featuring Linda Ronstadt and the Australian band Stars. These images, now part of the Queensland State Library collection, are recognised as a valuable piece of Brisbane’s cultural history.

Alan’s work expanded to the Sunshine Coast in the early 1980s, where he documented the vibrant music scene in Noosa Heads. His series of photographs, now part of the Grills Collection on Heritage Noosa, offer a unique glimpse into the region’s musical past.

Beyond concerts, Alan also captured iconic local events such as the Noosa Triathlon, with those images also featured in the Grills Collection.

Alan’s love for live music continues to this day, and his photography captures the spirit of performances and events across South East Queensland.
