He is one of the Vice Presidents in the Qld Draughts Association at this time and he use to write up games for the papers for people to solve. William wrote under the pseudonym of "SAXON" and sometimes under the pseudonym of " SAXON OF COORAN". Mr Briggenshaw when interviewed in 2001 remembered him as a champion player and as a child remembered him as the "chess playing blacksmith".
